SUMMARY:NYC PIT Pop Up at The Oculus
DESCRIPTION:The NYC PIT Pop-Up (aka NYC Public Interest Tech Pop-Up) is a temporary\, immersive\, pop-up event where technology\, art\, science\, and community converge. For ten days\, a storefront space in the South Concourse of the iconic Oculus/World Trade Center Transit Hub will become part gallery\, part workshop\, and part future commons. This shared space for co-creation and imagination will showcase how technology can be designed to serve justice\, equity\, and community empowerment. This event has been organized by the CUNY PIT Lab in partnership with BetaNYC and the support of the Public Interest Tech University Network (PIT-UN). \n\n\n\nThis event is free to the public. The space will be open Monday through Friday from 2pm to 8pm\, and Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 8pm. \n\n\n\nWhat You’ll Find Inside: \n\n\n\nDaily Demos & Performances: From civic tech tools to protest art and abolitionist projects\, partners across NYC will activate the space with opportunities for hands-on experiences \n\n\n\nVisioning Games: A collective narrative will emerge over the 10 days that will shape building a cross-sector space to generate opportunities for public interest tech in action for the future of New York City and beyond. \n\n\n\nFeedback Wall: People power is needed to direct the future of tech. Visitors will be encouraged to leave their ideas behind and invited to watch them grow even after they leave. \n\n\n\nZine Station: On-site PIT zine making with student and community partners. \n\n\n\nPartners & Voices: \n\n\n\nCUNY PIT Lab is teaming up with artists\, technologists\, justice organizers\, and nonprofits including: \n\n\n\n\nBetaNYC – Mapping for equity and open data demos\n\n\n\nNY PIT Regional Hub (members from Fordham\, NYU\, Columbia)\n\n\n\nPIT-UN.org\n\n\n\nCyberCollective – on surveillance and abolition\n\n\n\nRoadtrip Nation – Tech for Us documentary\n\n\n\nJustice-involved and immigrant rights groups\n\n\n\nScholars and students from across NYC\n\n\n\n\n…and more (zine makers\, musicians\, pop-up collaborators and neighbors!) \n\n\n\nwww.nycpitpopup.org \n\n\n\nAll media inquiries: PITLab@cuny.edu

SUMMARY:Can Generative AI Help Generate Support for Infrastructure Projects?
DESCRIPTION:Infrastructure projects work best when the communities served and impacted by proposed investments are engaged and informed early and effectively in the planning process. Visual renderings and data-driven maps explaining proposed works are a tool long used by the private sector to guide discussion about future outcomes with community stakeholders. But local governments typically lack the resources to produce accurate\, realistic renderings of committed infrastructure projects—let alone multiple possible designs. Generative AI\, however\, now offers a fast-expanding array of tools for creating photorealistic renderings and thematic maps that portray multiple options\, opening new possibilities for planning and public engagement. This session will explore how urban planners and community advocates are harnessing these new capabilities to engage community stakeholders earlier and more effectively\, to improve infrastructure projects and consolidate support as they seek federal funding. \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\nEmily Royall\, Smart City Administrator\, City of San Antonio\, Texas\n\n\n\nAshley Louie\, Chief Technology Officer\, BetaNYC\n\n\n\nDamiano Cerrone\, Co–Founder\, UrbanistAI

DESCRIPTION:PIT@CUNY: Advancing Public Interest Technology Through Upskilling\, Data Collaboration and Community Tech Apprenticeships (Collaborating with AI for Teaching and Learning) \n\n\n\nPublic Interest Technology (PIT) is an emerging field focused on the development of technology that promotes social good\, sustainability and equity. PIT approaches are being applied to AI\, machine learning\, disaster prevention\, data science and cybersecurity\, with a mission to address societal challenges. CUNY\, with its 25 campuses across New York City\, is at the forefront of advancing these technologies in civic engagement\, education and economic growth.
