We know times are tough, and we are asking those with means to support us. We, too, have been impacted by federal funding cuts and need our community to step in during this important and influential time.
Any level of sustaining support contributes to our impactful work.
Here are some data-driven examples from 2025!
(1) For 2025, we strengthened our digital literacy programming. Our classes, rooted in cross-cutting community partnerships, are critical to solidarity. We had 8,940 people attend one of our 44 classes, including 1,016 who attended one of OTI/BetaNYC’s Open Data Ambassador classes! Following a record-breaking NYC School of Data, we launched CityCamp NYC, a unique community gathering that provides space for people to connect, collaborate, and experiment with ideas.
(2) Of our 13 mapping events held in ALL five Boroughs, we trained 134 people and mapped over 682 public realm amenities. We mapped 2,942 feet of paths, sidewalks, and ramps, improving visibility of the city’s walkable, accessible infrastructure. We mapped 49,239 square feet of parks, gardens, and community centers!
(3) Our Civic Innovation Lab provided critical support to under-resourced community-based organizations and elected officials and addressed 44 research or data assistance requests they sent in.
(5) Through our support of Borough Presidents, 3,430 New Yorkers applied to join their community board using an accessible online form. This is our fifth year supporting four of the five Borough Presidents.
(4) Every time we host an event, someone thanks us for sharing a public interest tech resource they weren’t aware of. They learned through our weekly newsletter, which now has over 5,300 subscribers, our weekly public interest tech newsletter is read by nearly 2,000 people each week. BetaNYC is a public-interest tech nonprofit that believes in democracy. Our work helped pioneer NYC’s Open Data Law and shaped the civic tech community we cherish today. Since 2008, we’ve trained over 10,000 New Yorkers in open data and mentored 91 Civic Innovation Fellows—empowering communities with the tools to engage with government and advocate for change. Annually, over 5,000 attend NYC’s Open Data Festival, which we co-produce with the City’s Open Data Team.
No one is above the law, and we believe in an inclusive democracy. We have a special donation page that helps sustain this mission and our public programs.
