NYC School of Data returns in early April 2027, and the call for proposals is open!
School of Data is BetaNYC’s annual community conference on open data, public interest technology, and service design. It is a day-long, in-person gathering during NYC Open Data Week. The program is built from community proposals.
Proposals are due Sunday, December 6, 2026 at 11:59 pm.
What we’re looking for
We welcome workshops, panels, demos, and talks, whether you have a rough sketch or a full plan. Presenting is free. Sessions should work for a general audience. The people in the room chose to spend their day at a civic tech conference, so bring something they can try or question.
Every proposal must relate to at least one of these:
- A dataset on NYC Open Data
- Publicly available data about NYC
- Publicly available data about a broader area, with NYC as the main example
- Open data as a concept, in a way that could benefit NYC
How it works
School of Data shares one proposal form with Open Data Week. Under Venue, choose “In-person, School of Data.” If you are not sure where your idea fits, say so in your description and we will help. Open Data Week 2027 runs from Saturday, March 27 through Sunday, April 11, so an idea that does not suit the conference may fit the festival instead.
We review proposals on a rolling basis and may ask for a short call to talk through your idea. We aim to send decisions in January 2027. The full program goes live in early 2027. The Open Data Week FAQ covers the process in detail.
